Assistance & Therapy Dogs

Assistance Dogs are trained to carry out identifiable physical tasks and behaviours that assist a person with a disability. Assistance dogs improve the quality of their handlers' lives and facilitate greater independence.

Therapy dogs are trained with their handlers to provide therapeutic intervention to other people in the community. They often help many people, unlike an Assistance Dog which is trained only for the handler’s disability.

We are industry experienced trainers for Assistance and Therapy dogs, with experience in Public Access Testing and knowledge of federal and state legislation. We will provide you a comprehensive early socialisation plan for your puppy, which gives you the best chance of success in raising them to be a suitable assistance or therapy dog. Guidance and support are provided through basic and advanced obedience training, followed by task-based training to support your specific disability. We provide support as needed once your dog is operational.

We have to date trained therapy dogs for work in schools, hospitals, retirement homes, allied health, end of life therapy, and psychology practices in our region. These dogs provide comfort, companionship, and emotional support in their varied roles.

We currently also support Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dog Act certified organisations through the development of Assistance dog training plans, running training, and assessment of dogs.

We take on a small number of Assistance and Therapy Dog clients located in the Cairns and Atherton Tablelands region each year. Please get in contact to discuss training with our program.
